Job Summary
Startup Inno is seeking a highly detail-oriented and experienced Remote Payroll Specialist – Multi-State German Tax to manage end-to-end payroll operations for our distributed workforce. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing across multiple German federal states, handling complex tax regulations, social security contributions, and employee benefits. This position is ideal for a payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced, remote-first environment and has strong expertise in German payroll legislation and cross-border compliance.
Manage full-cycle payroll processing for employees across multiple German states, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Calculate salaries, bonuses, overtime, allowances, and statutory deductions in compliance with German labor and tax laws.
Handle income tax, church tax, solidarity surcharge, and social security contributions.
Maintain payroll records, employee data, and statutory documentation.
Ensure compliance with federal and state-specific regulations, including audits and reporting.
Collaborate with HR and Finance teams on onboarding, offboarding, and payroll adjustments.
Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies professionally.
Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll reports.
Monitor changes in German payroll legislation and implement updates accordingly.
Strong knowledge of German payroll systems, tax regulations, and labor laws.
Proficiency in payroll software and HRIS platforms.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication skills in English (German language proficiency is a plus).
Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in payroll processing, preferably in a remote or international environment.
Proven experience handling multi-state or multi-region payroll in Germany.
Experience working with international teams or remote companies is highly desirable.
Full-time, 40 hours per week.
Flexible working schedule with core overlap hours aligned with Central European Time (CET).
In-depth understanding of German tax structures and social security systems.
Ability to interpret and apply complex regulatory information.
Strong confidentiality and data protection awareness (GDPR compliance).
Proactive mindset with the ability to manage deadlines and priorities.
Comfortable working with digital tools and remote collaboration platforms.
