Startup Inno is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Remote Legal Counsel – GDPR & AI Privacy Specialist to join our growing global team. This role is ideal for a legal professional with deep expertise in data protection, privacy regulations, and emerging legal frameworks around artificial intelligence. As a trusted advisor, you will play a critical role in ensuring our products, platforms, and operations comply with international privacy laws, particularly GDPR, while supporting innovation in AI-driven solutions.
You will collaborate closely with product, engineering, compliance, and leadership teams to proactively identify legal risks, design privacy-by-default strategies, and guide ethical and lawful use of data and AI technologies.
Provide legal guidance on GDPR, data protection laws, and AI-related regulatory frameworks (EU AI Act, privacy-by-design, etc.).
Draft, review, and negotiate privacy policies, data processing agreements (DPAs), and vendor contracts.
Conduct privacy impact assessments (DPIAs) and AI risk assessments.
Advise on cross-border data transfers and compliance mechanisms (SCCs, adequacy decisions, etc.).
Support product teams in embedding compliance into AI and data-driven solutions.
Monitor regulatory developments related to privacy, cybersecurity, and AI governance.
Handle data subject rights requests and regulatory inquiries.
Train internal teams on privacy, compliance, and responsible AI practices.
Act as internal Data Protection Officer (DPO) support or advisor where required.
Strong expertise in GDPR, global data protection laws, and privacy frameworks.
Solid understanding of AI technologies and their legal implications.
Ability to interpret complex regulations and translate them into practical business guidance.
Excellent legal drafting and contract negotiation skills.
Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Analytical mindset with high attention to detail.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, remote startup environment.
Minimum 5+ years of legal experience in data protection, privacy, or technology law.
Previous experience working with SaaS, AI, or tech companies is highly preferred.
Experience with regulatory compliance, audits, or risk management.
Prior in-house counsel experience is a strong advantage.
