Job Summary

Startup Inno is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Remote Legal Counsel – GDPR & AI Privacy Specialist to join our growing global team. This role is ideal for a legal professional with deep expertise in data protection, privacy regulations, and emerging legal frameworks around artificial intelligence. As a trusted advisor, you will play a critical role in ensuring our products, platforms, and operations comply with international privacy laws, particularly GDPR, while supporting innovation in AI-driven solutions.

You will collaborate closely with product, engineering, compliance, and leadership teams to proactively identify legal risks, design privacy-by-default strategies, and guide ethical and lawful use of data and AI technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide legal guidance on GDPR, data protection laws, and AI-related regulatory frameworks (EU AI Act, privacy-by-design, etc.).

• Draft, review, and negotiate privacy policies, data processing agreements (DPAs), and vendor contracts.

• Conduct privacy impact assessments (DPIAs) and AI risk assessments.

• Advise on cross-border data transfers and compliance mechanisms (SCCs, adequacy decisions, etc.).

• Support product teams in embedding compliance into AI and data-driven solutions.

• Monitor regulatory developments related to privacy, cybersecurity, and AI governance.

• Handle data subject rights requests and regulatory inquiries.

• Train internal teams on privacy, compliance, and responsible AI practices.

• Act as internal Data Protection Officer (DPO) support or advisor where required.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Strong expertise in GDPR, global data protection laws, and privacy frameworks.

• Solid understanding of AI technologies and their legal implications.

• Ability to interpret complex regulations and translate them into practical business guidance.

• Excellent legal drafting and contract negotiation skills.

• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.

• Analytical mindset with high attention to detail.

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, remote startup environment.

Experience

• Minimum 5+ years of legal experience in data protection, privacy, or technology law.

• Previous experience working with SaaS, AI, or tech companies is highly preferred.

• Experience with regulatory compliance, audits, or risk management.

• Prior in-house counsel experience is a strong advantage.

Working Hours

• Fully remote position.
