Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd, South Africas leading electricity supplier, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Workshop Assistant (Utilityman) – Technical Support to join our dynamic technical team. The ideal candidate will provide hands-on support in workshop operations, assisting technicians in maintaining, repairing, and servicing equipment and machinery. This role ensures efficient workshop functionality and contributes to the overall safety, reliability, and performance of Eskoms technical assets.
Assist technicians in the maintenance, repair, and assembly of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment.
Operate hand tools, power tools, and workshop machinery safely and efficiently.
Conduct routine inspections and basic troubleshooting of equipment under supervision.
Assist in loading, unloading, and moving heavy machinery and components within the workshop.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
Record and report equipment maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage accurately.
Support the implementation of workshop schedules and workflow to optimize productivity.
Respond promptly to urgent workshop tasks or technical requests.
Grade 10–12 certificate or equivalent; technical or vocational training is an advantage.
Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
Physically fit and capable of performing manual tasks safely.
Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
Good communication skills to interact effectively with team members.
1–2 years of experience in a technical or workshop environment is preferred.
Experience supporting electrical, mechanical, or industrial maintenance teams is an asset.
Standard working hours: 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday).
Flexibility may be required for emergency maintenance or operational needs.
Knowledge of workshop safety practices and procedures.
Ability to operate basic workshop equipment and tools.
Problem-solving skills and the ability to follow technical instructions.
Team player with a proactive and responsible work ethic.
Basic computer literacy for reporting and record-keeping purposes is advantageous.
