Key Responsibilities:
Accurately assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for medical services provided by healthcare professionals.
Review and process medical claims for submission to insurance companies and other payers.
Ensure timely and accurate claims filing to maximize revenue.
Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain pre-authorizations as required.
Resolve discrepancies or errors in claims by coordinating with healthcare providers and insurance companies.
Maintain and update patient records in compliance with privacy and security regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
Assist with tracking payments, identifying unpaid claims, and following up on denied claims.
Stay updated on coding guidelines, payer requirements, and healthcare regulations.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or GED (required).
Certificate in medical billing and coding or enrollment in a coding certification program (preferred but not required).
Certifications (optional but advantageous):
Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS)
Skills:
Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Proficiency with computers and willingness to learn medical billing software.
Ability to manage deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
Interest in healthcare and a desire to build a career in the field.
