Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Hospital-Based Outpatient Coder to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure accurate coding for outpatient services rendered in a hospital setting. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of outpatient coding guidelines, including CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes, and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations to maximize revenue and reduce denials.
Key Responsibilities

Review and analyze outpatient medical records to assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on documented diagnoses and procedures.
Ensure all coding complies with industry standards, including federal and state regulations, and hospital-specific policies.
Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to clarify documentation and optimize coding accuracy.
Resolve coding-related claim denials and discrepancies by conducting thorough reviews and providing corrective actions.
Participate in regular coding audits and maintain a high level of accuracy to ensure compliance and minimize revenue loss.
Stay updated on changes to outpatient coding guidelines, payer requirements, and regulatory standards.
Use electronic health record (EHR) and coding software to complete coding tasks efficiently.
Generate coding reports and communicate findings to supervisors and other relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent (required).
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or related field (preferred).

Certification (required):
Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC).

Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of outpatient coding experience in a hospital or clinical setting.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology.

Skills:
Proficiency in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Familiarity with EHR systems and coding software (e.g., Epic, Cerner, 3M Encoder).
Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

Job Requirements

Employment Type: Full-time (Remote or On-site options available).
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, with occasional weekends if needed.
