Eskom is seeking motivated and detail-oriented individuals to join our team as Engineering Assistants in the Maintenance & Operation sector for the Transmission Network. As part of Eskom’s commitment to providing reliable and sustainable electricity, this role is essential to the smooth operation and maintenance of South Africa’s transmission network. The ideal candidate will support the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of electrical systems and equipment in a dynamic and challenging environment.




Key Responsibilities



  • System Maintenance: Assist in the routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of transmission network infrastructure, including electrical equipment, transformers, and switchgear

  • Operational Support: Provide on-site operational support to ensure the stable functioning of the transmission network

  • Equipment Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of transmission lines, substations, and related equipment to identify potential issues and prevent downtime

  • Data Management: Record maintenance activities and performance data accurately for analysis and reporting

  • Troubleshooting: Support engineers in diagnosing and resolving technical faults and malfunctions in transmission equipment

  • Safety Adherence: Ensure all activities comply with Eskom’s safety standards and environmental regulations

  • Collaboration: Work closely with senior engineers, technicians, and other team members to meet maintenance schedules and improve system performance




Qualifications & Requirements



  • Educational Background: National Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field (N6 or equivalent qualification preferred)

  • Experience: Previous experience in an electrical engineering, maintenance, or transmission network role is advantageous but not required (fresher candidates are encouraged to apply)

  • Technical Skills: Understanding of electrical systems, transmission networks, and basic troubleshooting techniques

  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety practices and protocols in an industrial or electrical setting

  • Computer Literacy: Proficient in using software tools for data management, reporting, and documentation (MS Office, maintenance management systems)

  • Communication Skills: Good written and verbal communication skills

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Willingness to Learn: Willingness to undergo training and development in the field of transmission maintenance
